CARTALAX RESEARCH UPDATE / 29 SEP 2026

Where this preparation fits.

Evidence belongs to the preparation actually studied. A tissue extract and a synthetic peptide can belong to the same research tradition without having equivalent effects or safety.

Pineal gland: the molecular link

Epithalamin → Epitalon / AEDG

The 2017 analytical study detected AEDG in pineal polypeptide complex, after its earlier design from amino-acid composition.

Clinical boundary

The 12-year cardiovascular report, 266-person gerontology report and melatonin observations concern Epithalamin extract.

Extract findings do not establish equivalent benefits for synthetic AEDG. Check cohort overlap, methods and independent replication before interpreting longevity claims.

Khavinson VKh, Kuznik BI, Ryzhak GA · Adv Gerontol 26(1):20-37. PMID 24003726

Summarizes clinical work on seven named peptide preparations. Useful for tracing original Russian reports and distinguishing tissue extracts from short peptides.

Population / setting
Originating group’s clinical and gerontology literature
What was checked
Indexed abstract and citation checked via Europe PMC / PubMed; full methods and risk of bias not appraised.
Limitations & review scope
  • Review by investigators in the originating program; not independent replication.
  • Clinical findings must be traced to the exact preparation and original study.

Source checked 2026-09-29. This is a source-linked record, not a completed evidence review.

Identification of Peptide AEDG in the Polypeptide Complex of the Pineal Gland

Khavinson VK, Kopylov AT, Vaskovsky BV, Ryzhak GA, Lin'kova NS · Bull Exp Biol Med 164(1):41-43. PMID 29124531

Mass spectrometry/HPLC and selective reaction monitoring identified AEDG in the pineal complex. This supplies a molecular link to the synthetic tetrapeptide.

Population / setting
Pineal polypeptide-complex composition
What was checked
Indexed abstract and citation checked via Europe PMC / PubMed; full methods and risk of bias not appraised.
Limitations & review scope
  • Detection in an extract does not prove that this peptide accounts for all extract effects.
  • Composition analysis does not establish clinical equivalence.

Source checked 2026-09-29. This is a source-linked record, not a completed evidence review.

Peptides of pineal gland and thymus prolong human life

Khavinson VKh, Morozov VG · Neuro Endocrinol Lett 24(3-4):233-240. PMID 14523363

The investigators reported differences in illness and mortality across extract-treatment groups and controls. This is research on Thymalin and Epithalamin, including their combination.

Population / setting
266 older people followed for 6–8 years
What was checked
Indexed abstract and citation checked via Europe PMC / PubMed; full methods and risk of bias not appraised.
Limitations & review scope
  • Allocation, attrition, baseline balance and outcome ascertainment require full-text appraisal.
  • Do not transfer these outcomes to Vilon, Thymogen or synthetic Epitalon; independent replication is not established here.

Korkushko OV, Khavinson VKh, Shatilo VB, Magdich LV · Bull Exp Biol Med 137(4):389-391. PMID 15452611

Reported changes in nighttime melatonin that differed according to baseline pineal activity.

Population / setting
Older adults; plasma melatonin before and after treatment
What was checked
Indexed abstract and citation checked via Europe PMC / PubMed; full methods and risk of bias not appraised.
Limitations & review scope
  • Before/after hormone measurements do not establish sleep-stage or clinical sleep benefit.
  • The preparation is Epithalamin, not isolated AEDG.

Korkushko OV, Khavinson VKh, Shatilo VB, Antonyuk-Shcheglova IA · Bull Exp Biol Med 142(3):356-359. PMID 17426848

The abstract describes a randomized comparison and reports favorable long-term cardiovascular and mortality outcomes with the pineal extract.

Population / setting
Older patients with coronary disease and accelerated cardiovascular aging; 12-year follow-up
What was checked
Indexed abstract and citation checked via Europe PMC / PubMed; full methods and risk of bias not appraised.
Limitations & review scope
  • Allocation methods, follow-up completeness and absolute event counts require full-text appraisal.
  • Potential overlap with later follow-up reports must be checked; this is not an Epitalon trial.
