Structural and functional changes in the retina of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and compensated intraocular pressure while undergoing retinoprotective therapy
Egorov EA, Erichev VP, Strakhov VV, Petrov SY, Romanova TB, Vasina MV, Zinina VS, Makarova AS, Kazanova SY, Yartsev AV · 2019 · Vestnik Oftalmologii. 2019;135(3):20–30.
Study findings
Visual-field indices improved within the treated group while declining in controls. Visual acuity did not change; retinal nerve-fiber thickness and neuroretinal-rim volume remained stable in both groups. Electrophysiological results varied by measure.
- Population and setting
- 180 glaucoma patients (355 eyes), randomized equally; 12 months
- Evidence type
- Randomized trial
- Preparation
- Retinalamin tissue-derived preparation
- Source language
- English abstract; original language varies
- Title source
- Title as recorded in the linked source or index. A separate original-language title has not been transcribed unless shown above.
Study limitations
- Baseline visual-field values differed. Within-group trends alone do not quantify a between-group treatment effect.
- Blinding, multiple testing and handling of correlated eyes require full-methods appraisal.
Publication counts are not counts of independent trials. Reviews, translations and reports sharing participants may overlap. Findings apply to the studied preparation, population and endpoints.
